About Welding Technology
Students participate in a structured sequence of coursework that introduces foundational and advanced concepts in welding theory, blueprint reading, metallurgy, layout and fabrication, thermal cutting, and welding inspection. Through extensive hands-on training, learners gain proficiency in major welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). Students also develop skills in oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and the use of fabrication equipment such as grinders, saws, and metal-forming tools.
Students may pursue industry-recognized credentials, including AWS Certifications, OSHA 10, or manufacturer-sponsored welding qualifications, which enhance employability and validate technical skill mastery. Work-based learning experiences, such as internships, pre-apprenticeships, or partnerships with fabrication shops and manufacturing firms, provide students with authentic exposure to welding environments and professional expectations.
This pathway prepares students for entry-level roles such as welder, fabricator, pipe welder trainee, structural welder, maintenance welder, or production technician. They are also positioned to pursue advanced training in welding inspection, robotic welding, metal fabrication, or postsecondary programs in welding technology and engineering technology.
