Opening in 1968, Hinds Career Center is located in northwest Madison County in Elwood Indiana, the second largest city in the county. It serves seven school districts in Madison, Hamilton, Tipton, and Grant counties. Six of the seven school corporations are rural districts with one or two small towns. The majority of the local workforces of these communities commute outside of the school districts for employment. Agriculture is a substantial part of the economy of these districts.
Hinds Career Center, area career-technical education district #25, is comprised of five school districts: Alexandria Community School Corporation, Elwood Community School Corporation, Frankton-Lapel Community School Corporation, Madison-Grant United School Corporation, and Tipton Community School Corporation. Three other districts have chosen to enter into an operating agreement with Hinds to provide educational opportunities for their students: Hamilton Heights School Corporation, Noblesville Schools, and Northern Community Schools of Tipton County (Tri-Central)
Hinds is Indiana's first career center and one of only career center in the Indiana accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Institutions.
