About Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
Students engage in a comprehensive sequence of coursework that introduces essential concepts in medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, infection control, pharmacology fundamentals, clinical procedures, and medical law and ethics. Through theory-based instruction, laboratory practice, and hands-on training, learners develop proficiency in vital signs measurement, patient intake and history collection, electrocardiography (EKG/ECG), specimen collection and processing, basic laboratory testing, medication administration (where permitted), and clinical documentation.
A central component of the pathway is preparation for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential, or other recognized medical assistant certifications when available. Students may also earn additional credentials, including CPR/BLS and First Aid. Work-based learning experiences, such as clinical rotations or externships in medical offices or clinics, provide learners with direct exposure to patient-care environments and reinforce the competencies expected of clinical medical assistants.
The pathway prepares students for entry-level roles such as clinical medical assistant, EKG technician, patient care associate, physician’s office assistant, or clinical support specialist. They are also positioned to pursue further education and training in nursing, allied health, medical laboratory careers, and other healthcare fields.
