About Work-Based Learning
Students participating in Work-Based Learning engage in supervised, meaningful experiences that may include internships, cooperative education, industry mentorships, clinical rotations, apprenticeships, job shadowing, or school-based enterprises. These placements offer opportunities to apply pathway-related skills in real contexts, interact with industry professionals, and observe workplace expectations such as punctuality, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and responsibility.
A key component of Work-Based Learning is the integration of career readiness skills, including communication, collaboration, adaptability, leadership, digital literacy, and critical thinking—skills highly valued by employers across all industries. Students gain exposure to organizational structures, industry technologies, and workplace cultures, while building networks and gaining insights that support informed career decision-making.
This pathway prepares students to enter the workforce with strengthened employability skills or to continue their education with a clearer understanding of their career goals. Participating students often gain competitive advantages in hiring, postsecondary admissions, and scholarship opportunities due to their documented workplace experience and professional development.
