About Fire and Rescue
Students engage in a structured sequence of coursework that introduces core concepts in fire behavior, building construction, firefighting tactics, fire prevention, hazardous materials awareness, rescue operations, emergency medical support, and incident command systems. Instruction combines classroom theory with extensive skills-based training in areas such as personal protective equipment use, hose handling, ladder operations, search and rescue techniques, ventilation, forcible entry, and fire suppression strategies. Students also explore fire safety education, emergency communications, and the role of fire services within public safety systems.
A key component of the pathway includes opportunities to pursue industry-recognized certifications, such as CPR/First Aid, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Firefighter I/II certifications when available through approved training partnerships. Students may also participate in work-based learning experiences, including station ride-alongs, observation hours, or collaboration with local fire departments, which provide authentic exposure to fire service operations and expectations.
This pathway prepares students for entry-level roles such as firefighter trainee, emergency responder, fire prevention assistant, or volunteer firefighter, as well as for continued education in fire science, emergency management, paramedicine, or other public safety fields.
