School Opening Information

The First Day

  • Elwood HS students - Thursday, July 28. All other students - Monday, August 1.
  • AM classes begin at 8:30 AM. PM classes begin at 12:45

Student Arrival

  • Bus Riders- Students arriving will disembark, enter through door 1, and report directly to their classroom.
  • Car Riders- Students will arrive no more than fifteen (15) minutes prior to the class start time (8:30 AM or 12:45 PM), park in the Hinds student parking lot. Students should enter through door 1 and report directly to their classroom. Loitering in the parking lot will not be permitted.

COVID-19 Precautions

  • Masks are recommended if you are not feeling well.

Breaks & Food

  • All breaks will be held in classroom and lab areas. Food and drinks from vending machines will be taken back to classrooms/labs.
  • Students are not permitted to bring food and drink into the building. A clear water bottle may be used by a student. Students should NOT share any food or drinks.


  • If your student is ill, report the absence to BOTH Hinds and your high school. Absence due to COVID related illness or exposure will be exempt from Hinds’ regular school attendance limits. Documentation may be requested. Students will still be responsible for completing coursework and regular contact with their instructor.
  • First and second absence in each grade period are excused provided the absences are reported and for valid reasons (put link to handbook).
  • Third absence and forward are excused with a valid medical document (special circumstances may be approved).
  • Without a valid excuse, the credit reduction will begin at 6 unexcused/unknown absences. Refer to attendance policy in Student Handbook (put link to handbook).
